Puerto Buenos Aires

El puerto de Buenos Aires es el principal puerto de Argentina, operado por la Administración General de Puertos de la Sociedad del Estado. Es uno de los principales puertos marítimos para la carga que proviene del interior del país. El puerto actual fue construido a finales del siglo XIX (Puerto Madero y Dock Sud) y ampliado durante la primera mitad del siglo XX (Puerto Nuevo).

Hoy en día, maneja aproximadamente 8,710,000 toneladas de carga. El nuevo puerto de cruceros ha supuesto un extraordinario resurgimiento del tráfico de pasajeros en sus muelles, que pueden albergar barcos de gran desplazamiento.

La zona denominada Puerto Nuevo era el área de concesiones para operaciones portuarias privadas y la atención de buques de ultramar y cabotaje. Consta de seis dársenas, cinco de ultramar llamadas A, B, C, D y E, de sur a norte, y un muelle de cabotaje llamado F.

El área ocupada por las cinco terminales de carga general del puerto abarca unas 93 hectáreas, con 7,250 metros de longitud de muelle y 23 atracaderos para buques. La Terminal 6 no está operativa y se encuentra en proceso de licitación. La zona norte de la cuenca está delimitada por muelles para barcos de la Armada Argentina y áreas de permiso.

El sector portuario sur comprende 115 hectáreas y 5,000 metros de muelle en áreas del sur y la boca. Allí se encuentran empresas que desarrollan actividades como depósitos aduaneros, servicios de almacenamiento de mercancías de importación, exportación y reparación de barcos, telecomunicaciones, instalaciones para residuos industriales especiales y una zona recreativa.

El área de la Dársena Sur es utilizada principalmente por petroleros; el puerto adyacente cuenta con un patio de maniobras ferroviario donde llega material recientemente adquirido de países europeos para ser transferido a la red. La actividad más importante en esta área es la industria petroquímica.
